Yes, some are jdbc drivers (usually .jar), some are odbc. Some db vendors create driver installation packages, some simply ship the .jar file.

In this case, mysql driver requires installation by the vendor.

Also feel free to decide which drivers you need based on your own databases, those are just two arbitrary examples.
